June 2004
Vivek Mansingh, Member - Board of Governors, MNNIT Talks to Nor-Cal Alumni
Vivek Mansingh, who is an alum of MNREC, and a member of Board of Governors of the college, visited Bay Area in June 2004. He gave a very informative talk and updated us on the college achievements and future roadmap.

The college has been given Deemed University status in June 2002 and has been renamed as Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology. The college today offers under-graduate, PG, MBA, and MCA in 7 disciplines, has a huge infrastructure of computer systems and network,
with Internet connectivity throughout the campus. A new computer center, improved laboratories, software for various disciplines, auditorium, new hostels, and improved library facilities are some of the recent accomplishments.

College is continuously working on strengthening of the existing academic programs, up-gradating of infrastructure, improving industry institute interaction, and building strong faculty.

A formal office of the Alumni has been established and several alumni initiatives are in progress including alumni database, exchange programs, conventions, and websites.

Being involved with college for some time, Vivek knows the needs of the college and how alums can help fulfill some of those needs. The areas he stressed are visiting college, software donations, training CDs, helping library and providing new books, hiring faculty, strong alumni network, and scholarships.

The talk was attended by a significant number of bay area alumni. Click here to view the presentation.

March 2004
Basant Bahaar 2004

Basant Bahaar 2004 was the most successful event we had in the history of our association We had a record participation of 175 by alums (including families and kids). We saw a lot of old faces and a whole lot of new ones. Whole alumni community of bay area came together to make this event the most exciting one. Cultural program by Arindam Chakraborty, MC by Nidhi Mathur and Debu Roy, Games by Sandip Gupta and the registration team of Rahul Gaur and younger alums made it a great success. The evening was like a homecoming for most of the alums. Everybody enjoyed the cultural program, mouth watering food and drinks, and the music and dance that continued until midnight .

For the past few months there has been a talk of turnaround in the economy. New companies are being set up in the valley and new ideas are getting venture funded. After a long time we had increased VC funding for new companies in Q4 2003. To leverage the current environment, we are inviting a guest to talk about some of the fundamentals of setting up and doing business. It is our hope that a few more of our alumni will set up their companies in the near future and will find the talk useful. One of the topic will be doing business with India.
